Der Führerschein Klasse B ist die häufigste Fahrerlaubnis und berechtigt zum Führen von Pkw bis 3,5 Tonnen zulässiger Gesamtmasse (zGM) mit bis zu acht Sitzplätzen plus Fahrer. Er erlaubt auch das Ziehen von Anhängern: bis zu 750 kg zGM ohne Einschränkung und schwerere Anhänger, sofern die Gesamtmasse der Kombination 3,5 Tonnen nicht übersteigt. Mit Klasse B sind auch die Klassen AM (Kleinkrafträder bis 45 km/h) und L (landwirtschaftliche Zugmaschinen) enthalten. 

The BE driving licence authorises the holder to tow trailers with a permissible total mass (PTM) of over 750 kg up to 3,500 kg with a towing vehicle of category B. The combined mass of the vehicle and trailer must not exceed 7,000 kg (3,500 kg towing vehicle + 3,500 kg trailer). Requirements include possession of a category B driving licence and completion of training including a theoretical and practical examination.

A Class B driving licence with code 78 (B78) is an automatic driving licence that only permits the holder to drive vehicles with automatic transmissions. If the driving test was taken in an automatic vehicle, this restriction (code 78) is entered on the licence. This offers the advantage of more relaxed driving but limits the ability to drive vehicles with manual transmissions.

The B197 driving licence is a category B licence that allows you to take the practical test in an automatic vehicle. The prerequisite is that you have completed ten driving lessons and a short test drive in a manual transmission vehicle during your training. With this endorsement, you are permitted to drive both automatic and manual vehicles, both in Germany and abroad.

BF17 stands for "accompanied driving from age 17" and allows young people in Germany to obtain a Class B (car) or BE driver's license at the age of 17, as long as they are accompanied by a registered accompanying person until their 18th birthday. The aim is to increase the safety of novice drivers by allowing them to gain driving experience with an experienced driver and to reduce the risk of accidents. The BF17 certificate is only valid in Germany and Austria and does not authorize driving alone.

The B96 driving licence is an extension of category B, allowing the holder to drive trailers where the combined permissible total mass of the towing vehicle and trailer is up to 4,250 kg. Unlike category BE, B96 is not a separate category, but a code obtained through training without an additional test. The training includes theoretical and practical exercises as well as a driving lesson on public roads.
